What is Integrative Oncology?
A cancer diagnosis doesn’t only raise questions about treatment — it also brings concerns about side effects, quality of life, and how to stay strong during the journey. Many people ask: “What else can I do to support myself alongside my medical treatment?”
This is where integrative oncology comes in.
Integrative oncology is an approach that brings together the best of conventional medicine — like surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or hormonal therapy — with evidence-based lifestyle changes and supportive practices. It looks at the whole person, not just the tumor.
That can include:
- Lifestyle medicine: nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management.
- Mind-body practices: yoga, meditation, mindfulness, art or music therapy.
- Natural support: selected herbs, supplements, or gentle complementary therapies (always considered carefully alongside medical treatments).
The aim isn’t to replace standard cancer care — it’s to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, and help you feel more in control of your health.
In my consultations, I work with patients to explore which of these options fit best for them, considering their treatment plan, personal needs, and resources. Together, we create a plan that helps you feel supported not only medically, but also emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
